Placido Domingo, Sondra Radvanovsky, Arturo Chacon Cruz, and Rod Gilfrey star in this production of the Alfano opera with Patrick Fournillier conducting the Orquestra e Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana, directed by Michael Znaniecki. While best known today for having composed the ending to Puccini's unfinished Turandot, Franco Alfano wrote some dozen operas, including Cyrano de Bergerac (1936) with a libretto by Henri Cain based on Edmond Rostand's drama of the same name. It is a moving tale of romantic misunderstanding, swashbuckling bravado and heartbreaking loyalty, in which the eloquent Cyrano feels unable to express his love for Roxane because of his famously protuberant nose—except on behalf of his handsome but inarticulate friend, Christian.

An Egean artist sees his younger wife and his son (from a previous marriage) making incestuous love, decides to paint such a beautiful scene on a canvas, especially with them riding her white stallion. The lovers can't know what the strange arrangements mean, and are afraid the painter suspects their relationship. When they try to leave the house, the painter's madness explodes, and Greek tragedy settles on the family.

As part of this game he sends her to a Chinese brothel. A poor young boy sees her and falls in love with her. To get the money needed to sleep with her, he joins "the revolution". Additionally the movie shows the fate of some of the other prostitutes
