The most classical piece, with its standard three-movements, fast-slow-fast, is the concerto for bassoon, a dandy, colorful composition requiring virtuosity. .. The first two tracks of the album constitutes From The Institutes of Groove, which features the bass trombone of Angel Subero, who has traveled the worlds of classical, Latin, and jazz. The first section, Too Jazz for Rock, is amusing because it is too classical for jazz! It is an exciting, atmospheric, rhythmic romp that blends the three musical styles. Rising on the Wing is a pulsing spiral of keys, ending at the next octave, that puts the slide of the trombone to good use in its glissandi. ...In short, this charming Gandolfi album is groovy, man.
